A Message from the President
MBH: Where Our People are the Stars of the Team
Welcome to the Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH) annual report. As the people working closest to the patient, our care teams represent the backbone of delivering health care services that make a difference.
As Maine’s largest behavioral health service provider, our goal at MBH is to provide an inclusive environment where all care team members can thrive and feel supported to realize their full potential. As you read the amazing stories in this report, you will see that our care team members are uniquely gifted and passionate in their areas of expertise. Indeed, they are the stars of our team.
As I reflect on this year’s accomplishments, I am proud of our work to create safe, engaging environments for our care team and patients. This year, we realized the highest employee participation rates in our annual care team experience survey. This result is attributed to improved communication and departmental leadership, which speaks to the culture we create across 34 MBH locations.
Guided by our MBH scorecard, we also use data to set and manage our strategic priorities and inform quality improvement. While the numbers are important, our people tell the complete story. As the drivers of quality care, their deep dedication to delivering outstanding behavioral health services reflects positively on organizational performance. Their contributions are reflected throughout this report.
Keeping our care team members, patients, and visitors safe is critical to our ability to provide this care. This year, we embarked on a journey to becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO). An HRO is an organization, like health care, that operates in environments that are both complex and prone to risk yet manage to operate for extended periods without safety issues or harmful events. HROs subscribe to a set of core principles that rely on diverse expertise, in-depth data analysis, sensitivity to operations, and commitment to resilience. Of our 45 identified HRO goals, approximately 90% are completed or in progress.
I am proud of this year’s growth and success across MBH. I am also deeply inspired and optimistic about working with this all-star team. Together, we can fulfill our mission of collaborating to promote recovery and the overall mental and physical well-being of those we are privileged to serve.
