Philanthropy Activity and Donor Listings
Much of this year’s fundraising activity centered on raising funds necessary to build the new Glickman Lauder Center of Excellence in Autism and Developmental Disorders. The Center provides comprehensive care and services to individuals with autism and developmental disorders across the lifespan. Committee volunteers humbled us with their dedication to making the Center a reality while juggling additional needs in the community. The Development Office is pleased to share these highlights from the year:
Virtual Signs of Hope Celebration Breaks Fundraising Record!

Led by co-hosts Sheri Boulos (photo right) and Susie Marshall, the 15th annual Signs of Hope event in February 2021 raised nearly $200,000 for the Center of Excellence in Autism and Developmental Disorders. We are grateful for their leadership and the generous support of the Host Committee and all who attended the virtual event.
Development Committee Chair Lucy Tucker served as emcee to welcome viewers and speakers. Maine Behavioral Healthcare President Kelly Barton provided opening remarks, followed by the Center’s own Dr. Matthew Siegel. Program highlights included comments by parents of children with autism and other developmental disorders, who shared how the care their loved ones received from MBH positively impacted their lives. Due to the virtual format of the event, the program reached households far beyond Maine.
Hard Hat Soiree and Bricks of Opportunity Lead to Big Campaign Commitments

Two tireless Glickman Lauder Center of Excellence campaign cabinet members led a hard hat event in June 2021. Erin Soucy (photo left) and Tami Goldsmith (photo right) hosted the event at the construction site, leading to more than $100,000 in new major gift commitments in support of the new facility. Seeking a way to inspire generosity further and provide naming opportunities for an expanded range of donors, the pair also conceived the sale of bricks engraved with donor names and sentiments for $250 or $500. The Bricks of Opportunity campaign sold more than 100 bricks that yielded more than $40,000 in contributions to fund the Center. Today, the bricks can be seen in the walkway leading to the main entrance of the building. While the Bricks of Opportunity campaign has ended, you may still support the Center of Excellence. Signs of Hope Raises Funds for Zero Suicide

The 16th annual Signs of Hope fundraiser, held in July 2021 at the Portland Country Club, was a resounding success. The signature annual fundraiser brought in $88,000, in support of enacting the national Zero Suicide initiative in Maine. Dollars were raised thanks to our generous Host Committee and dozens of supporters, led by event host Sheri Boulos.
Health care systems around the nation have adopted Zero Suicide, a practical framework designed to save lives.
Holiday Partners Brightens the Holidays for Those in Need
The holidays may mark “the most wonderful time of the year,” but the season can be challenging for those who spend the holidays away from their loved ones. Our Holiday Partners program exists to make the season easier. The program benefited patients at Spring Harbor Hospital and was expanded this year. More than 70 clients at our residential facilities received gift bags with warm winter wear.
Thanks to all who spread their love and support by donating to the Holiday Partners program. In particular, we are grateful to our friends at UNUM, the Westbrook Women’s Club, and Woodard & Curran for sponsoring gift drives, which sent carloads of gifts to our patients who may otherwise have had nothing.
Cabinet Members Lead Winter Clothing Drive
$4,000 in contributions to fund the purchase of new winter clothes for students.
Tami Goldsmith and Erin Soucy launched the inaugural Glickman Lauder Center of Excellence Winter Wear Drive in December 2021 with their fellow campaign cabinet members to help close any outerwear gaps among the Center’s K – 12 Day Treatment Program students. After social workers reached out to parents to learn what their students might need, Goldsmith, Soucy, and the cabinet responded with $4,000 in contributions to fund the purchase of new hats, jackets, mittens, snow pants and boots for students.
